The project consists in the implementation of a 3D interactive simulation of the historical centre of the town of Villacidro, as well as of the old village of Tratalias.

A part of the historical centre of Villacidro and the whole old village of Tratalias have been recontructed in 3D.
Aerophotogrammetry at the 1:500 scale and ad hoc photographic survey of all the façades, useful for the texturing of all the buildings, have been used for the simulation.

Description

The technical grounds for the development of the Urban Centres 3D project have been 1:500 aerophotogrammetry cartography and photographic survey at the ground level. The end result is hence a direct evolution of the starting technical material, whose precision (that is, its technical value) is maintained in the simulation.

Every aspect regarding the modelling of the elements present in the cartography (buildings, roofs, road conditions, sidewalks, walls, poles, urban greenery, ground cover) have been considered. The buildings façades have been photographed and optimized for mosaic-making; after rectification, the texture has then been obtained and used for the 3D model. As a result, a realistic representation of the urban environment to its last detail has been obtained. The 3D model, texturized in every part, has been then elaborated in order to make possible real-time, interactive navigation.

The high technical precision of the 3D model and the photographic survey allow for uses in technical tools for viewing, managing and designing urban environments.
