3D Interactive navigation - Galleria Henry

The project consists of a three-dimensional reconstruction of the tunnel system “Galleria Henry”. The simulation offers the opportunity to visit the former mining site, riding the tourist train, also accurately reconstructed in 3D. The mine site is located near the town of Buggerru (Sardinia, Italy).

To complete the simulation it was necessary to perform a laser survey of the whole internal structure and part of the exterior, with a total of 145 survey stations.

Project steps:

- Photographic Survey.
- Optimization of the points’ cloud obtained by the laser scanner.
- Transform points’ cloud in triangulated mesh.
- Optimization of the rocky parts of the mesh.
- Creation of 3D model.
- Assignment of materials to the model (texturing).
- 3D terrain modelling, based on mapping in scale 1:10.000.
- Insertion of the model within the 3D graphics engine.
- Inclusion of the interaction sounds and sound effects.
- Programming of interaction and navigation in the model.
- Design and construction of lighting and photorealistic effects.
- Programming the interactive multiplatform 3D engine.
- Publishing the simulation on the Web.
